So you just opened your swimming pool and your swimming pool pump has been sitting all winter and whenyou plug it in, to your surprise it just hums and it seems like its stuck or frozen, well this could mean two things:

A) The capacitor on the back of the motor is bad(some motors don't have capacitors)

B) The windings inside the motor developed some surface rust, and the ball bearings might have become stuck causing the motor to hum or be "frozen".

Solution: Well the easy solution and sometimes this will work is to try tapping the motor casing with a hammer a few times to knock of the surface rust, causin the motor windings or bearings to free up allowing your motor to run once again

If the above few taps wit the good old hammer doesnt get you pump running again, you might want to consider bring the motor or whole pump unit into a service shop, or just go out a buy a new pump.
